The Department of Physics and Engineering Physics, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has announced the passing of Professor Ademola (Adé) Amusa, FSESA, FNIP, a distinguished scholar, teacher, mentor, and former Head of Department.
Professor Amusa was a respected academic whose life and work left a lasting mark on the University and the wider scientific community. Renowned for his dedication to teaching, research, and service, he contributed immensely to the growth of Physics education and scholarship in Nigeria. His career was defined by intellectual depth, academic excellence, and a quiet but powerful commitment to mentoring generations of students and colleagues.
He served as Head of the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics from August 1, 1989 to July 31, 1992, during which he provided thoughtful leadership and helped strengthen the department’s academic culture. Over the years, Professor Amusa earned widespread recognition for his scholarly contributions, particularly in Physics, and for his role in shaping the lives and careers of many who passed through the University.
In honour of his life, legacy, and service, a Commendation Service will be held on Friday, 17 April 2026, at 8:00 a.m. at the Physics Foyer, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The University community, staff, students, alumni, friends, and well-wishers are invited to attend the service and pay tribute to a man whose legacy of scholarship, integrity, and mentorship will continue to endure.
